Your Legacy Keeps Living

Life is finite but the thought of death, that our life will end makes us shiver and feel goosebumps. We put that thought aside and live carelessly and taking life for granted.

It was just last week that we were struck by the news of the tragic death of a basketball star. There was a terrible accident that claimed his life and the life of eight other people including his daughter. The news spread in minutes and by the end of the day, the world was mourning this terrible loss.

It is in moments like this that we feel a collective moment of sorrow and thoughtfulness. This kind of tragedy makes us ponder the fragility of life. Yes, life can be over in just a fraction of a second. It is final and there are no more plans, struggles or opportunities.

Today, I am just not reflecting on the passing of Kobe Bryant. Today, I am reflecting on the life he lived. He was a professional basketball player and basketball was his biggest passion. But he was also a husband, a devoted father, a humble and caring human being, loyal to his fans and to his team. His personal life was the same roller coaster that we all experience with all the ups and downs along the way. What made him great was his willingness to correct his mistakes and become a better human being. That willingness worked for him on and off the court.

Kobe Bryant found his passion at an early age, followed it and devoted his life to doing what he really loved. He mentored many including his daughter Gianna, who shared this same passion for basketball. His passion accompanied him to his final moments as he was traveling with his daughter and seven other persons to coach a game where his daughter was playing. Today, we are left with memories and his legacy.

We must take a moment today to honor his memory. In honoring his memory, we should reflect on our lives. Are we living a life with purpose? Have we found our real passion in life? Do we wake up every morning with a heart full of gratitude for the miracle of a new day? Are we willing to direct our steps with determination and work towards our dreams? We need to remember that today is given but tomorrow is not certain. After we are gone, our loved ones will remember us for the legacy that we left behind. May our legacy be a reason to celebrate when we are gone.

Today, I dedicate this space to celebrate the life of one of the greatest basketball players of all times. I send my love and respect to his family and to the families of those that were in the accident.

Rest In Peace Black Mamba.

Thanks for your legacy!
